The Helsinki Cup is one of the most traditional and international football tournaments in Finland and the third largest event of its kind in Europe. In July 2015, it was held for the 40th time. The six-day tournament, which involves both girls and boys, usually takes place in the second week of July. For many generations of junior footballers, the Helsinki Cup has become an event that they have remembered for a lifetime. The first players who took part in the Helsinki Cup are already over fifty, and now their grandchildren are playing here.
During the years of the tournament, many famous players (such as Rafael Benitez, Ze Roberto, Julio Baptista, Jari Litmanen, Sami Hyypia and Laura Kalmari) took part in the Helsinki Cup as participants and coaches. Since 1992 the Helsinki Cup is becoming an official sports event in Finland. The tournament was honored by the Presidents of FIFA and UEFA - Joao Avelange and Lennart Johansson.
The tournament starts with group games, where 5 or 6 teams play in each group, then all teams continue to play in the Play-Off A, B or C competition, where the games are held for elimination.
Each participant receives a diploma, the best players are awarded in each age. There are team and individual awards for winners in each age.
