The old part of the town enchants visitors with its narrow, winding streets, preserved from the past, and its iconic whitewashed houses. This cosy and picturesque corner of eastern Portugal, located close to the Spanish border, is known for its medieval castle that offers views of the surrounding hills. A highlight is the Jewish quarter with a 15th-century synagogue, one of the oldest in the country. We recommend exploring the historic centres of the nearby villages of Marvão and Castelo de Vide, enjoying nature walks, and visiting workshops that showcase traditional sweet-making or blacksmithing crafts.
